Golfers, Go See the Dermatologist Before It Becomes Surgery
I want to urge you using all the passion and strength that I have—visit your dermatologist. If it’s been a while since you last went, or if you’ve never done so, then you should go and book an appointment.
I say that since, throughout my whole life, I have never had any problems with my skin at all—not a single time. Of course, I had spent most of my life outdoors. It wasn't until I went with my wife to see a dermatologist that this started to happen. The dermatologist examined something on me and then said, "I don't like that."
A biopsy was carried out and it proved to be a case that required surgical removal.
I've had it carried out three times by now.
Do not wait for a problem to show that it is there.
That's exactly the point; I never thought that I would need a dermatologist since there was no reason in my mind to be worried. However, skin problems don't always give a warning and make themselves known.
If you're a golfer then you are precisely the sort of person who should take this seriously. We have a great affection for being outdoors. We enjoy the open spaces. We enjoy the sunshine. We enjoy our excellent game.
It's not only golf; it's also:
pickleball
hiking
horseback riding
fishing
tennis
swimming
the ocean
the beach
We might keep talking for ever.
Sunshine is wonderful, but it isn't harmless.
I appreciate the sunshine just as much as anyone else—it's wonderful, certainly. But it's necessary to look after yourself the correct way.
It’s not just any sunscreen—not one you’d buy at the dollar store, put in your bag, and then forget about. I mean the correct sunscreen, and yes, it might cost you a bit of money.
Why not ask your dermatologist what type of sunscreen is suitable for you? Do not make an assumption and do not think that you are adequately protected just because the container says it is sunscreen.
I considered myself to be all right, but I wasn't.
Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate
When you're looking after your skin, you should also look after the rest of yourself. If you're outside in hot weather, you must hydrate, hydrate, hydrate.
Water, certainly, can be the case. It doesn't have to be water though. You should also make certain to get adequate hydration and reasonable electrolytes. If you need any advice, then speak to your healthcare provider or a nutrition professional. Avoid letting social media do your thinking for you.
I'm telling you: leave now.
I had surgery on my ear and then carried on with my day. I am feeling fine now, but it would be better if I used my experience to help you avoid reaching this situation.
Your skin is the biggest organ in your body and should not be ignored.
Let me tell you this: if you haven't gone, then go; if a long time has passed, go; and even if you think that you don't have to, go anyway.
Make the appointment.
